Much like the rain, the #17 Utes fall hard in home finale.

Well, it was Senior day for the 17th ranked Utah Utes. On a normal senior day, it would’ve been a great game to watch, in what seemingly felt like two evenly matched teams. However, a 42-10 game, that included over 500 yards given up on defense and according to Utes Head Coach Kyle Whittingham, the worst game of the season for the Utes. “By far our worst performance of the year tonight, coaches and players, Whittingham said. So, you move forward. You have to pick yourself up off the mat and regroup, and head to Colorado next weekend to get our eighth win.”

The Utes tied their season high in turnover in this game, with four. The other four turnover performance was two weeks ago against Oregon. Both games ending in blowout fashion too.

Despite the knockout blow, delivered by the Wildcats to Utah tonight, the Utes still have plenty to play for. That’s right! It didn’t seem like it tonight, but the Utes are on the verge of their best record, both overall and in conference, since joining the Pac-12. 7-4 is still the Utah’s best start, in this, their 4th season in the Pac-12. The 4-4 conference record is tied for the best conference start through eight games. A win over Colorado would put the Utes, 5-4 in conference, and the best conference record in Utah’s short time in the Pac-12. So even though it was the worst performance of the season, there is still a lot to hold your head up for, if you’re Utah. That is, unless the Utes lose next week at Colorado and we see a re-creation of 2011. A scene both the Utes and Buffaloes are familiar with. In their inaugural season in the Pac-12, for both Colorado and Utah, the Buffs played the role of spoiler. All Utah had to do was win their last game at home to Colorado and they would’ve been Pac-12 South Champions. Instead, Utah lost. Closing out their regular season 7-5, 4-5 in Pac-12 play. This time it’s not a Pac-12 South Championship on the line. But, instead, bowl reservations.
