Morgan Scalley: “A Lot To Learn” After First Year As DC

Even for the best football minds, there are several “ah-ha” moments in new positions the first time through, and Scalley told Bill Riley on Wednesday that is definitely the case for him.

Morgan Scalley has been a part of Utah football for nearly two decades as a player and a coach. In 2016, he was given his first shot as a defensive coordinator. The Utes finished atop the Pac-12 in rush defense (128.7 yds/gm), eighth in pass defense (254.3), second in total interceptions (18), and first in sacks (43) under his call.

Scalley also gave high praise to junior safety Marcus Williams, who declared for the NFL Draft after another standout season, and to defensive tackle Lowell Lotulelei, who is returning to Utah for his senior year.
