The Poinsettia Bowl Is Gone

The San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl is no more after the San Diego Bowl Game Association announced Wednesday morning they are terminating the game to focus on just the Holiday Bowl.

BYU won the last Poinsettia Bowl over Wyoming, and apparently killed the bowl in the process.

Kidding aside, the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl is no more after the San Diego Bowl Game Association announced Wednesday morning they are terminating the game to focus on just the Holiday Bowl.  The Cougars and the Utah Utes both appeared twice in the game, winning all of their respective games–Utah vs. Navy in 2007 (35-32), Utah vs. Cal in 2009 (37-27), BYU vs. San Diego St. in 2012 (23-6), and BYU vs. Wyoming in 2016 (24-21) in the twelfth and final episode of the game.

TCU has the most bowl wins (3-0), while Navy holds the most appearances (2-2).  The highest-rated game was between No. 11 TCU and No. 9 Boise State in 2008, which TCU won, 17-16.

BYU was tied with the bowl for 2017 and 2018, so the Cougars will be searching for another agreement until their tie-in with the Hawaii Bowl in 2019.
