Portland got the early 1-0 lead from Christine Sinclair in the 9′ minute, but fresh off the world cup tour Christen Press sparked the crowd in the 43′ minute.
Coming out of halftime the Royals and Thorns missed on a few opportunities until the Thorns put one in the back of the net in the 87′ minute on an OG from Becky Sauerbrunn.
With extra time being put on the clock, the Royals answered back in the 90′ minute from Rachel Corsie.
The Royals push their record to 5-3-4 and sit in fifth place in the NWSL. They are back at the Riot next Saturday to take on second seeded North Carolina Courage (6-4-2).
