Utah Jazz take victory over Portland Trail Blazers in overtime

In another home game, the Utah Jazz were set to face the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday, Nov. 1 in the Vivint Smart Home Arena. After a close game between the two teams, the game went into overtime with the final score of 112-103 in favor of the Jazz.

The Jazz got down 6-0 early in the first quarter to start the game, but got a three-pointer up from forward Joe Ingles, bringing the Jazz in the game. While they stayed down for the majority of the first quarter, the Jazz got their first lead off of another three-pointer from forward Jonas Jerebko.

Going into the second quarter, the Jazz held a small 22-20 lead over the Trail Blazers. With both teams going back and forth on scoring points, the Trail Blazers took the lead over the Jazz by a point with two minutes remaining in the first half, but after a few penalty shots, the game remained tied 39-39.

With a tied game going into the last half of the game, the Trail Blazers took their lead back in the third quarter. The Jazz only trailed by a point for the quarter, answering shot for shot and finally retook the lead towards the end of the quarter, but couldn’t hold it for long as the Trail Blazers took the third quarter 69-64.

The Trail Blazers held a lead with five minutes remaining in the last quarter of the game, keeping the Jazz trailing by two points and extended their lead by six points, but the Jazz were quick to close up the gap and tie the game 94-94 by the final buzzer, bringing the game into overtime.

Overtime started with a three-pointer from the Jazz, giving them an early lead in the final minutes of the game. The lead was extended by another three points by guard Donovan Mitchell and center Rudy Gobert off of penalty shots, and guard Ricky Rubio added an extra two points to the Jazz lead. With some more free throws from the Jazz, they were able to hold off the Trails Blazers, taking the 112-103 win.

Up next for the Jazz, they have another home game against the Toronto Raptors on Friday, Nov. 3 in the Vivint Smart Home Arena. Tipoff is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. MT.
