Utes Take Care Of Oregon State, 86-78

SALT LAKE CITY, UT – The University of Utah came into their matchup with the Oregon State Beavers looking to bounce back from their close loss to the Oregon Ducks on Thursday night and head coach Larry Krystkowiak welcomed his old teammate from college, Oregon State head coach Wayne Tinkle played with Larry for one season at Montana in the 80’s.

Oregon State (4-17, 0-8 Pac-12) would stay close with the Utes for the first part of the first half before Larry’s crew would turn up the intensity and go to the locker room with a 42-30 lead.  Utah would come out of the gates to start the second half firing on all cylinders, getting the lead to a 28 point lead with 8:55 to go in the game.  Larry would put in his younger players to get more experience.  He had them in during the Beavers run to get the lead to just 10 with under three minutes to go before Larry would put his starters in to close out the game.  The scoreboard doesn’t reflect how the Utes played but came away with an 86-78 win.

Utah was led by Kyle Kuzma with 18 points and 12 rebounds.  Three other Utes were in double figures (Collette 13, Van Dyke and Zamora 11 apiece).  Oregon State had two players score 52 of their 78 points led by Stephen Thompson Jr. with 30 and JaQuori McLaughlin with 22.  The Utes shot 58% (32-55) from the field and 8-16 from downtown.  Oregon State shot 50% (26-52) from the field and 45% (9-20) from the three-point-line.
