Jazz sweep season series with Celtics

The Utah Jazz swept the Boston Celtics with two wins in eight days over one of the East’s perceived premiere teams. After a tough outing against Philadelphia Friday night, the Jazz bounced back with an impressive road performance on the second night of a back to back.

Donovan Mitchell led all scorers with 28 points, rebounding from a 35 FGA/zero assist outing against the 76ers. Mitchell’s energy early in the game set the tone for the Jazz, avoiding three consecutive losses for the second time this season. After getting blown out by the Dallas Mavericks by 50 Wednesday night, the Jazz let a victory get away at the free-throw line against Philly, before once again finding their defensive groove against Gordon Hayward and the C’s.

Kyrie Irving picked up his 5th foul midway through the third quarter, and the Jazz were able to maintain a double digit lead for the remainder of the period, leading by 15 going into the final period. Though the offense was slow to get off the ground in the 4th, Boston was equally poor offensively, shooting just 35-91, including 5-33 from the three point line. The Celtics had won in overtime against the Toronto Raptors Monday night.

Ricky Rubio had a bounce back game, and maybe his best game of the season slowing Irving, while contributing 20 points, four rebounds, two assists and three steals.

Hayward finished with just seven points, four rebounds, three assists and three turnovers on 3-7 shooting, 0-2 from the three point line and a -11 +/-.

The Jazz travel to Indiana Monday night to finish their five game road trip.
