Utah Jazz offense goes cold against Philadelphia 76ers

Coming off a pounding against the Houston Rockets, the Utah Jazz rebounded defensively, but unfortunately the offense stayed in Texas. The Jazz shot a season low 30% from the field and fell to the Philadelphia 76ers 104-97 on Tuesday night.

Despite getting open looks, Utah was unable to make shots. Rodney Hood, Ricky Rubio, and Joe Ingles shot a combined 14-of-46, 5-of-22 from long range. Donovan Mitchell couldn’t provide a burst off the bench. The rookie went 3-of-21 from the field, making only one shot in the second half.

Hood was the Jazz’s offensive leader. The former Duke standout continued to drive to the basket despite not finding success from the floor. Hood went 9-of-10 from the charity stripe to earn 19 points. Rubio joined Hood as the only other starter with a positive plus-minus, +3 and +2 respectively.

Despite the poor offensive showing, the Jazz were in the game. Philly held a 41-28 advantage with 7:14 left in the 2nd quarter. Utah used a defensive barrage to close the gap. The 76ers made only two buckets to finish the period. Utah only trailed 46-44 at half. But Philly came out of the break to win the 3rd quarter 34-27.

Even without Joel Embiid, the 76ers showed off the fruits of “The Process.” Dario Saric, the 12th pick of the 2014 NBA Draft, led all scorers with 25 points, including a 5-of-9 performance from deep. Ben Simmons spurred Philly on with a stellar line of 16 points, 13 rebounds, three steal, and three blocks.

The Jazz play the second of a four-game homestand Friday against the Miami Heat.
