Leg 2 Preview: RSL vs. LA Galaxy

After a scoreless draw in the first leg of the Western Conference Semifinals, Real Salt Lake is set to face the LA Galaxy on Sunday at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif., in the second leg of the aggregate-goals series.  The LA-RSL contest will be broadcast live on ESPN2, ESPN 700 and 102.3 La Gran D FM.

The Claret-and-Cobalt enters the match with a four-match unbeaten streak with four consecutive shutouts.  That includes a 0-0 draw in the first leg against LA last Saturday, as RSL extended its shutout streak to 403 consecutive minutes.

In the first leg, RSL outshot the Galaxy 16-3, with six shots on goal to just one for LA.  However, LA GK Jaime Penedo finished with six saves to keep the match scoreless.  Salt Lake had six players with at least two shots in the match and held 63.9-percent of possession in the second half.

RSL ended the 2014 regular season in third place in the Western Conference at 15-8-11 (56 points).  LA finished second in the West at 17-7-10 (61 points).

Salt Lake and LA split the three-match regular season series, although their last regular season meeting was on July 12.  The two teams met in the season opener on March 8 at the StubHub Center, with RSL winning on the strength of an 80th-minute goal from Plata.  Two weeks later, they played to a 1-1 draw at Rio Tinto Stadium, Saborio scoring for RSL and FW Robbie Keane equalizing for the Galaxy.  In the final match, FW Gyasi Zardes scored the lone goal to give LA the victory, evening up the series.

Real Salt Lake is now 11-11-6 all-time in regular season meetings with the LA Galaxy and a 1-2-2 record in the playoffs for a 12-13-8 record across all competitions.
