Utah Football Notebook Monday Game Mode #1

Camp Kyle is over and preparations began on Monday afternoon for the Weber State Wildcats and the regular season opener on August 30th. A few notes from the Head Coach coming out of Monday Afternoon’s practice..

1. The depth chart is 90-95% set right now. Left Guard and Defensive Tackle are two spots where the competition still continues.

2. Wants more consistency out of Nick Ford or Orlando Umana to win the Left Guard job.

3. Expects about 6 true freshman to really contribute this season, more than the allotted 4 games allowed before redshirting.

4. One true freshman that he singled was Wide Out Solomon Enis. Whittingham says he expects him to contribute and be part of the regular rotation. Still has a chance of making the Top 5

Here’s Kyle Whittingham with the media following practice on Monday Afternoon.

Thoughts on Weber State

There weren’t too many in-depth observations from players or Whittingham on Monday regarding Weber State. Installation and preparation for the Wildcats began on Monday afternoon. One interesting note on the game, 8 of the 11 Weber State Coaches either played or coached at Utah, including Head Coach Jay Hill.

One other familiar face is new to the Cats Staff this season, their Offensive and Utah Former Offensive Coordinator Dave Schramm. Schramm, who spent 7 seasons on Kyle Whittingham’s staff, joined Jay Hill in the offseason. His last stop was as Offensive Coordinator at Fresno State. Schramm has a current tie to Utah Athletics too, his son Dusty is on the Utah Baseball team as a freshman.

I caught up with Schramm on my show on Monday to get thoughts on his team and the Utes….

Up Next
