Praise heaped on Jazz star Donovan Mitchell after Game 3

Kyle Korver and Chris Paul laud the Jazz star.

The look was great. Austin Rivers and Clint Capela couldn’t locate the Jazz’s star. Donovan Mitchell launched a potential game-tying three with less than 10 seconds left. Short. The shot caromed off the rim. Mitchell finished with 34 points on 9-of 27 shooting in Utah’s 104-101 Game 3 loss to the Houston Rockets. He stared into the distance. A miss the great ones will remember for a lifetime.

Sometimes the story isn’t quite right. The action doesn’t fit the narrative. Life isn’t an influencer’s instagram.

Saturday started so brightly for Donovan Mitchell. After a self-described “no show” in Houston, Mitchell fueled the Jazz’s 55-50 lead in the first half; 21 points poured in the first 24 minutes. It didn’t carryover into the second.

Mitchell closed 3-of-14 from the field, not including the much cited 4-of-20 finish after starting 5-of-7.

“I can’t miss those shots and we’ve got to be able to capitalize as well,” the guard said.

Postgame Jazz veteran Kyle Korver launched into a speech on the burgeoning star.

Rockets point guard Chris Paul praised the second year player for putting the team on his back.

Game 4 is Monday night at 8:30.
