JORDAN LOVE, QB – UTAH STATE: 1st Round, 26th pick – GREEN BAY PACKERS
The 6’4”, 225lb Love is seen as a prototypical prospect in terms of size, mobility and arm talent. For those reasons, he often draws comparisons to NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes. Measurables don’t tell the entire story, however, and other aspects of his game have a long way to go before justifying that kind of comparison. Love threw an FBS-high 17 interceptions in 2019, something that surely has NFL scouts taking a second look at his remarkable previous year campaign.
In 2018, Love looked like a future NFL starter while earning second-team All-Mountain West honors for the Aggies. He ranked eighth in the FBS with 32 touchdown passes in 13 starts (267 of 417, 64.0 completion percentage, school single-season record 3,567 yards, six interceptions). A new coaching staff, shortage of weapons and tendency to take risks revealed the flaws in Love’s game the following year. Flaws that the Packers believe they can iron out with a few years of grooming behind Aaron Rodgers. Aaron, coincidentally, is now the same age as Brett Favre was when the Packers selected Rodgers.
