Brett Elliott said he realized pretty early on in his rehab from his wrist injury in 2003 that he wasn’t going to get his starting QB job at Utah back from Alex Smith.
On Wednesdays at noon on the Bill Riley Show is “Where Are They Now Wednesday,” where former athletes significant to the state of Utah are featured. This week was former Utah quarterback Brett Elliott, who is now the offensive coordinator at Texas State University. Elliott lost his starting quarterback job at Utah when he broke his wrist in the 2003 season and was replaced by future Heisman Trophy finalist and future #1 NFL Draft pick Alex Smith.
He later transferred to Linfield College, where he led his team to an NCAA Division III championship. He later played briefly for the San Diego Chargers before beginning his current coaching career.
