Real Salt Lake was back at home again after two road trips and consequently two losses. D.C. United was the opponent, a team in last place in the Eastern Conference and in a world of pain. With talks of Wayne Rooney joining the nation’s capital nobody knew what type of performance we were going to get from the visitors. As it turned out, a red card to United LB Joseph Mora in the 22nd minute gave Real Salt Lake a much needed 3-2 victory and gave RSL sole possession of 6th spot in the West.
The goal scorers were Baird in the 21st minute, Rusnak in the 26th and Savarino in the 56th.
RSL’s striker was born.
Corey Baird has now scored 3 goals in his 5 starts with RSL this season. What a difference the young fella has made to the entire makeup of this group. Not only has he been scoring goals, he puts pressure on the defenders of the opposition, which allows the midfield group to swoop on 50/50 balls. He has been a sensation thus far. His diving header against D.C. United was superb and could well be MLS Goal of the Week…Check it out below
