Rams’ JR Reed Fined for Unnecessary Roughness

Apparently, NFL officials take preseason games just as seriously as they do regular-season outings.

Case-in-point: Rams defensive back J.R. Reed has been slapped with a $5,556 fine for unnecessary roughness in a play that occurred during last week’s preseason game against the Raiders, the league announced Monday.

Despite the rule-violating play, Reed managed to register four tackles, two defended passes, and one interception during the game, which marked the Rams’ second outing of the preseason.

How often do players get away with unnecessary roughness?
