Dell Loy Hansen Announces Tony Beltran as RSL Assistant GM

Real Salt Lake and ESPN 700 owner Dell Loy Hansen joined “The Drive” with Spence Checketts on Tuesday afternoon.  The interview came in the wake of Real Monarchs’ first USL Championship title win on Sunday night in Louisville, which Checketts and Hansen discuss, but the big announcement of the afternoon was Tony Beltran being named as Real Salt Lake’s assistant general manager.  Beltran is still contractually a player for Real Salt Lake, though he announced his retirement from playing in September after a long battle with a knee injury from October 2017, but will officially begin his front office duties in 2020.

In addition to the announcement about Beltran, Hansen said the club has another announcement coming on Wednesday and that the announcements regarding the head coach and general manager positions will be “disciplined” and “strategic” and will likely come by the end of the first week of December.  He went on to say that the club has “identified” three and are in discussions with two important “pieces.”  In regard to Kyle Beckerman, Hansen said that the club will resume conversations with Beckerman and his agent after December 6th, when RSL will ideally have a head coach and general manager in place.  Hansen is hopeful that the club will do right by both Beckerman and the team, and that they won’t “under any circumstance repeat a Javier Morales.”
