International Break: What to Watch

Real Salt Lake went into the internatinal break with a road loss against Portland Timbers and will return to league play on Wednesday, September 11 for a home match against San Jose.  Now, the club has nine players reporting for their respective national team duties.

Albert Rusnak will have two matches with the Slovakia national team, the first on Friday, September 6 against Croatia at 12:45 p.m. MT on ESPN3 and the second on Monday, September 9 against Hungary at 12:45 p.m. MT on ESPN3.

Sam Johnson also has two matches with the Liberian national team, the first was a 3-1 win against Sierra Leone on Wednesday, September 4.  Johnson not only captained Liberia for the match but also scored for his country.  Liberia’s next match is also against Sierra Leone on Sunday, September 8 at 10:30 a.m. MT.

Jefferson Savarino has one match with Venezuela on Tuesday, September 10 against Colombia at 7 p.m. MT.

Corey Baird first match of the break with the U.S. men’s national team will be against Mexico on Friday, September 6 at 6:30 p.m. MT on FS1.  Then, on Tuesday, September 10 the U.S. will face Uruguay at 6:00 p.m. MT on FS1.

Sebastian Saucedo, Brooks Lennon, Justen Glad, and Aaron Herrera have been called up to the U.S. U-23 team.  Their match against Japan U-23 will be played on Monday, September 9 at 5:00 p.m. MT.

David Ochoa will play two matches with the U.S. U-20 team during the international break.  Their matches will be against Croatia U-20 on Thursday and United Arab Emirates U-23 on Monday.

As stated above, Real Salt Lake returns to league action next week with a home match against San Jose but it is unclear who will be available for the match with so many players playing matches the days leading up to Wednesday.  Our coverage of Real Salt Lake vs San Jose Earthquakes begins at 6:30 p.m.
