The Real Monarchs played their first game at Zions Bank Stadium Monday night against the Las Vegas Lights, in front of 4,065 fans. Though the Monarchs dominated the stats and had a man advantage for the majority of the match, the game ended in a scoreless draw. RSL men Luke Mulholland and Adam Henley both got time against the Lights as they recover from their respective injuries and hope to be back with the first team soon. Head Coach Mark Briggs enjoyed the atmosphere in the new stadium but wasn’t happy with the result.
Friday, the Monarchs return to Zions Bank Stadium to face Orange County SC, currently sitting in 1st in Group B, and hope to get 3 points for the first time in Herriman. The Monarchs are 4-1-1 and sitting in 3rd in Group B. The Monarchs, led by Chandler Hoffman and Sebastian Velasquez, are sitting 3 points behind their opponents and could be tied for first with a win on Friday. Orange County has a potent offense, scoring 14 goals in their 8 games, led by Thomas Enevoldsen with 5 goals on the season. OCSC has 5 clean sheets and has only given up 3 goals. The Monarchs have scored in 4 of their 6 games this season but given up 7 goals, keeping 2 clean sheets. Chandler Hoffman is sitting on 49 regular season goals and will become the 3rd player to reach the 50 goal milestone with his next goal.
