This year the results are expected to be much different. The Utes should reasonably expect to have 2 players selected in the 2018 draft.
DE Kylie Fitts is projected to be a mid round pick
DT Lowell Lotulelei is potentially a late round selection.
For a program like Utah it is especially important to continue the NFL pipeline each year. That is a good backbone for a program that isn’t in a major market. USC has had over 500 players drafted into the NFL. Utah may not ever catch that number but beating the Trojans at least every other year can help recruit even more NFL caliber players.
