RSL Signs Forward Sam Johnson

Real Salt Lake has announced the signing of Liberian forward Sam Johnson from Vålerenga in Norway’s first division.  The announcement comes just a month before the 2019 season is set to begin in Houston.

Johnson began his career playing in Liberia with third division team New Dream FC and scored two goals against Liberian Premier League team Nimba FC, who later signed him.  In 2011 he signed for Swedish side Assyriska IF and bounced around Sweden before signing with Wuhan Zall in China for 2016-2017.  Johnson scored six goals in eleven appearances for Wuhan Zall before joining Valerenga for the 2018 season, where he scored eleven goals in twenty-one appearances.

Johnson also played with the Liberian U-23 National Team in 2011, scoring six goals in eight appearances.  In 2015 he made his debut with the Liberian National Team.  Johnson has two goals in eleven appearances for the Lone Stars.

Johnson has been signed as a Designated Player alongside Albert Rusnak and Jefferson Savarino.

Real Salt Lake begins their season at Houston on March 2.
