RSL Undefeated In Preseason

Real Salt Lake kept their undefeated preseason streak going after drawing with Vancouver on Sunday, taking their record to 1-0-3.

RSL started the game with Rimando, Beltran, Horst, Schuler, Wingert, Holness, Adams, Velazco, Silva, Brody, and Barrett on the field and made one sub at halftime, when Brody made way for Hoffman.  But with unlimited substitutions allowed in preseason, Cassar decided to make a line-change in the 60th minute putting in Van Oekel, Phillips, Orozco, Maund, Lachowecki, Mulholland, Sunny, Allen, Rusnák, Plata, and Movsisyan.  These changes, along with those made by Vancouver, opened up the game and just ten 10 minutes later, Vancouver was on the board via Yordy Reyna.  That lead was short-lived though, as Jordan Allen controlled and slotted home a perfectly played ball from Joao Plata in the 83rd minute to tie the game up. Allen, who is looking to secure his starting spot on the team, has had a good preseason with 2 goals in 4 games and made the right midfield spot his own.

Despite the result, RSL looked the more dangerous of the two teams registering more shots than the White Caps.  Chad Barrett and Ricardo Velazco chemistry was looking strong as they connected on a few close chances, keeping White Caps GK Paolo Tornaghi on his toes for most of the game.  The battle between center backs continues as Cassar keeps testing his options. Captain Kyle Beckerman is still out on injury with a bone bruise in his left knee and is day-to-day.

Real Salt Lake have one more match in Portland before heading to L.A. for their final leg of preseason. They will face MLS expansion team Minnesota F.C. on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 6PM MST.
