Scrolling through Facebook on Sunday afternoon, I came across a recent Real Salt Lake post about the loss to Minnesota on Saturday night. I saw the comments, a few of them positive, but most of them still talking about Jeff Cassar, the lackluster start to the season, and ownership. This got me going a little bit. As I sat reading these comments, I became frustrated with the negativity and decided to address it. It’s time to move on RSL nation.
Today marks the beginning of a new era for Real Salt Lake. The Mike Petke Era. Today we start anew, we go back to zero. That’s where the players are starting under new management and as fans, we should be giving them a clean slate too. I am a fan, I grew up watching RSL, I went to the first game at Rice Eccles Stadium almost 12 years ago, and now I have a dream job working at the flagship station of Real Salt Lake. I get it. I understand the frustration and the negative comments. But things most likely won’t get better right away, this won’t be a quick fix. Petke has a lot of issues to address from an under-performing offense to a battered defense. This season most likely won’t go the way any of us wanted it to, but the future is bright.
The first five games of this season don’t matter outside of the standings anymore. What matters is what this team does from today on, under Mike Petke. I hope to see you all at the RioT on Saturday. The Team is the Star. We Believe. As One.
