Utah football fall camp recap 8/6/18

The media was allowed to view quite a bit of the team periods today at the end of practice and there were several big plays made by both sides of the ball. Tyler Huntley continues to lead the way and made a number of nice throws from the pocket and also using his mobility outside the pocket. Huntley connected with Bryan Thompson, Jake Jackson, Britain Covey and Siaosi Mariner. The offense also ran the ball quite well with Armand Shyne and TJ Green getting the majority of the reps at running back. The Utes held Zack Moss out for much of the day and I expect that to be the trend throughout fall camp as Moss has little left to prove. Nick Ford appears to be the starting left guard with Jordan Agasiva maintaining his spot at right guard. Lo Falemaka is still your starting center but we also saw Paul Toala getting reps there today. Jackson Barton and Darrin Paulo are your left and right tackles respectively. The starting offensive line played well for the most part today providing good running lanes and solid pass protection. We also saw Tyler Huntley taking snaps form under center which was not something we saw a lot of a year ago. Overall, the offense seemed to have a good day with the first string unit. When the second offensive unit came in it was clear that Jack Tuttle has emerged as the main backup QB to Tyler Huntley as Tuttle got more reps than Jason Shelley.

The defensive line at Utah made some big plays today. The first unit got plenty of pressure on the QB. Leki Fotu, Bradlee Anae and Maxs Tupai all had sacks. Bryant Pirtle has officially arrived on campus and will begin work soon to acclimate himself to Utah’s defense.
