Marist Talavou committed to the Utes over the weekend.

The 6’3″ 315lb guard from St. John Bosco high school is a mauler. He dominated people even as a sophomore and drew the attention of Oregon, ASU and Oklahoma. St. John Bosco high school has 8 of the top 50 recruits in the entire state of California for the class of 2019. Talavou played tackle in high school but will make the transition to the guard spot once he gets to the D-1 level. The first commit is the hardest to get when you’re trying to build momentum for a class.

The Utes also hosted a recruit over the weekend with an impressive slate of offers. Darien Chase took an official recruiting trip to Utah and said he was blown away by the Utes.

Chase is a 6’1″ 185lb athlete from the pacific northwest. He already has offers from Oregon, Oregon state, Nevada and Washington. The fact that Chase was pictured with Sharrieff Shah tells me the Utes consider Chase a defensive back at the moment.
