Utah loses associate head coach, Gary Andersen to Logan

Return to USU.

His second tenure at Utah led to his second at Utah State. The school announced his return Sunday.

Gary Andersen officially spent 11 months on the hill, beginning his job January 9. The former Oregon State and Wisconsin head coach was hired as an associate head coach and defensive line assistant. He joined Gunther and Ben during fall camp.

Andersen’s first stop in Logan was wildly successful. From 2009-2012, he tallied a 26-24 record, including WAC Coach of the Year honors in 2012. He replaces his 2012 replacement Matt Wells, who is off to Texas Tech.

He’ll be formally announced Tuesday at 11am.

USU finished 2018 10-2 with a spot in the New Mexico Bowl against North Texas on December 15.
