The Utes opened their season with a dominant performance over their in state rival Weber state. 41-10 was the final score as the Utes scored 41 unanswered points after trailing 10-0 early in the game. Tyler Huntley threw a bad interception that was returned to the 1 yard line, leading to Weber’s first score. The defense for Utah stepped up big time after that, allowing the third fewest yards in school history. 11 times Utah forced Weber state into 3 and out situations.
Utah’s offense started slow, VERY slow. There was a very bad interception thrown by Tyler Huntley in the 1st quarter. It originally looked like his arm was hit but after re watching it, Huntley should have stepped up in the pocket more to create space. I’m also not sure if Huntley even saw Landon Stice, the linebacker who made the interception.
After rewatching the interception from Tyler Huntley I can’t tell if his arm was hit. Looks like Mariner fell down on the route and Huntley didn’t see the linebacker who stepped in front of the pass. Lots of things for the Utes to work on after week one. pic.twitter.com/iyzZ7Te3GX

Zack Moss ended up saving the day for the Utes on offense with this incredible 86 yard run in the 2nd quarter. The game was never close after that play. Jordan Agasiva sprung the true junior running back with a big hole to run through.
86-yard TD run by #Hallandale HS (FL) alum & #Utah #Utes RB Zack Moss (@PresMoss2) vs #WeberState. Moss finished the game with 150 yards on 16 carries and a TD as well as 3 catches for 24 yards and a receiving TD pic.twitter.com/H3TmkH9s2v

Overall, it was a dominant performance by Utah’s defense. Utah still has to prove that Tyler Huntley can be a more consistent passer this season for the Utes to reach their goals. There are still questions as to who the top receiver is in Utah’s rotation. Britain Covey looked fantastic but there needs to be other options getting open to win the PAC 12 south.
