Ute spring game recap

The Red team beat the White team 21-14 on Saturday at Utah’s annual spring football scrimmage. Jason Shelley started out the day for the Red team and led the offense on a nice drive down the field. The game plan was conservative and Jason Shelley executed well for the most part. Shelley gave up a costly sack in the red zone on their first drive that would have knocked the Utes out of the red zone altogether. It was still a productive day however for Jason Shelley and the number 2 offense based on their ability to remain turnover free and run the football well. Then Tyler Huntley took over. The White offense completed a 60 yard pass on its first play. Huntley recognized a blown coverage in the secondary that left Bryan Thompson running wide open down the middle of the field with a perfectly thrown ball in stride. Tyler Huntley looks like he’s added weight to his frame this off season. Expect to see Huntley getting outside the pocket a ton this year on play action passes. Utah accomplished what they wanted in this spring football session which was to install Andy Ludwig’s offense and stay healthy. Utah will now await the arrival of Bamidele Olaseni in fall camp. Olaseni is the second highest rated offensive lineman to ever sign with the Utes and will surely get a chance to start at one of the tackle positions.
