Making Plays: Utah Football Scrimmage 4-11-15

The Utes took to the field at Rice Eccles Stadium today for the first spring scrimmage, opening up the stadium for spectators to watch. The Utah Football team has been practicing the last two weeks; looking forward to this day to bring together the offensive/defensive components to compete.

Some of the key take aways from the scrimmage was the movement on defense, improvement on special teams, and particular focus on offense in the red zone- end of game situations.

Defensive players Tavaris Williams and Brian Allen said that they were pleased with their teams performance during the scrimmage. Williams complimented the defense on how focused they were.

With goals in mind heading into practice, the defense was hoping to force 4 turnovers on offense, they were able to cause 1.

Returning from injury, Allen stated that he is working to improve his technique get some numbers down on the stat sheet so that he can make an impact during in the fall and during the season.

Kylie Fitts was out today with a minor injury, and the coaching staff hopes to get him back to practice next week.

Head coach of Utah Football Kyle Whittingham said that they hope to keep Bubba Poole in the receiver position, keeping his focus there into the fall.

The 2 minute drills on offense in the red zone were important to implement during practice today because it enabled the team to make plays- Whittingham stated that the time to practice those situations is very valuable.
