It may be hard to believe that in the first week in October it’s already College Basketball season, at least College Basketball practice season. Monday morning Utah Head Coach Larry Krystkowiak and some of his key players met with the media to talk about the upcoming season. A season that is filled with high expectations for the first time in many years at the University of Utah. Most Preseason Polls have the Runnin Utes picked anywhere from 2nd to 5th in the Pac 12 Conference and a few publications have Utah in their Top 25, including The Sporting News who pegs Utah at #20.
Head Coach Larry Krystkowiak really likes the make up of this year’s team. He’s got more depth, talent and experience than he’s had in his tenure at Utah. Krystkowiak also has a definitive leader and bonifide superstar in Delon Wright. Coach K says that Wright has put the NBA on the back burner for now and that he’s focused on leading the basketball team and getting his degree. Krystkowiak spoke to the media for 20 minutes on a variety of topics, here’s the audio of Utah’s Head Coach meeting with the Salt Lake media today.
I caught up with Delon Wright at Media Day at the Huntsman Center. He is a soft spoken good kid who was always confident in his game a year ago. But speaking with him at Fan Fest a month ago and again today he seems much more at ease with his role as team leader and go to guy. Here’s my conversation with Utah Point Guard Delon Wright.
One more note from Media Day, I peeked inside the Huntsman Center to see how the renovations were going. Let me just say that Utah Fans are going to be very pleased with the new look of their basketball arena. The new floor looks spectacular as does the new lighting. It was long overdue but well worth the wait. You’ll get your first look on October 21st on the Night with the Runnin Utes.
