Utah Camp Notes – Day 15

Day 15 Utah fall camp notes.

Fall Camp for the University of Utah football team runs through Saturday as it will wrap up Camp Kyle with a scrimmage before the new school year begins on Monday.

With hopes to see more separation in positions this week to help determine starters, one thing that is set in stone to be decided on this week are captains. Whittingham said the Utes will vote on captains on Wednesday and it will most likely be announced who those are on Thursday.

Quarterback battle continues

Utah offensive coordinator Troy Taylor said no quarterback decision will be made this week.

“I think we’ve got some good quarterbacks that are competing and playing well,” Taylor said. “Tyler [Huntley] is a guy that brings an element of a dual threat, Troy [Williams] brings a lot of experience and steadiness and Cooper [Bateman] brings maturity and good instincts. If it weren’t a great situation we probably already named a starter, but you got good competition and that’s why we’re where we’re at.”

Transitions

Sophomores Josh Nurse and Jake Jackson along with junior Alani Havili-Katoa have officially been moved to new positions as of this week. Nurse, who came to Utah as a wide receiver out of Blinn College has transitioned to safety because of the lack of depth in that position according to Whittingham.

“I’ve just been trying to learn the keys of the defense, get the details down and become the best defensive player I can for the University of Utah,” Nurse said.

Jackson has made the switch from linebacker to tight end and Havili-Katoa is no longer a defensive tackle, instead he has made his way over to the offensive line.
