Utah Utes Football Camp: Day 8

The offense takes a step forward after several days of defensive dominance.

The offense took a step forward today after several days of strong defensive performances. With two true freshmen starting on the outside with Kenneth Scott and Tim Patrick out with injuries, the wide receivers are learning from some freshman mistakes and improving bit by bit. The quarterbacks likewise had a strong showing today, due in part to the offensive line taking a step up.

Kyle Whittingham said he hopes to have Kenneth Scott back practicing tomorrow, and Raelon Singleton on Monday. Tim Patrick is further behind those two, but looks to be back within range of the Michigan game.

With camp progressing, we can expect the young offense to continue taking steps forward and catching up with the experienced defense.

Both Whittingham and Aaron Roderick mentioned Caleb Repp as a player who is standing out and will probably contribute for the team this year.

The cornerback position opposite Reggie Porter is tightly contested between Brian Allen and Cory Butler. Close behind are Tavaris Williams, Casey Hughes, and Boobie Hobbs. Coach Whittingham feels better about the corners at this point than he thought he would going into camp.

Britain Covey and Bubba Poole have separated at the top contenders at slot receiver.
