Utah Will Face CSU in Las Vegas Bowl

The University of Utah Football team found out Sunday afternoon where and who they will be bowling.  They will be playing in the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl and will face Colorado State out of the Mountain West Conference.  Utah finished the regular season with an 8-4 record  and 5-4 in the Pac-12, with wins over Idaho State, Fresno State, Michigan, #8 UCLA, Oregon State, #20 USC, Stanford, and Colorado.  Their 4 losses came against Washington State, #14 Arizona State, #4 Oregon, and #15 Arizona.  Colorado State ended their regular season with a 10-2 overall record and 6-2 in the Mountain West Conference.  Their 10 wins came against Colorado, UC Davis, Boston College, Tulsa, Nevada, Utah State, Wyoming, San Jose State, Hawaii, and New Mexico.  Their two losses came against Boise State and Air Force.  The Rams also lost their Head Coach, Jim McElwain, who took the head coaching job at Florida.  It is unknown who will be coaching the Rams in the Las Vegas Bowl.

This is the Utes first Bowl game appearance since 2011 when they beat Georgia Tech in the Hyundai Sun Bowl 30-27 in OT.  The Utes last appearance in the Las Vegas Bowl was in 2010 when they lost to Boise State 26-3.

Colorado State’s last Bowl appearance was last season when they beat Washington State 48-45 in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl.  Before that bowl game, their last appearance was in 2008 when they beat Fresno State 40-35 in the Las Vegas Bowl.

The 2014 Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl between the Utah Utes and the Colorado State Rams will take place on December 20th at 1:30pm.  You can watch that game on ABC or listen to it on ESPN 700 with Pregame Coverage beginning at 9 am.

Other local College Football Bowl Games were announced and BYU (8-4) will take on Memphis (9-3) in the Miami Beach Bowl in Miami, Florida on Monday, December 22nd at noon on ESPN.

Utah State (9-4) will take on UTEP (7-5) in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Saturday, December 20th at 12:20 pm on ESPN.

There were 7 other Pac-12 teams who were selected for Bowl Games:

#15 Arizona State (9-3) will take on Duke (9-3) in the Hyundai Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas on Saturday, December 27th at noon on CBS.

#24 USC (8-4) will take on Nebraska (9-3) in the National University Holiday Bowl in San Diego on Saturday, December 27th at 6 pm on ESPN.

Stanford (7-5) will take on Maryland (7-5) in the Foster Farms Bowl in Santa Clara, California on Tuesday, December 30th at 8 pm on ESPN.

#10 Arizona (10-3) will take on #20 Boise State (11-2) in the Vizio Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona on Wednesday, December 31st at 2 pm on ESPN.

#2 Oregon (12-1) will take on #4 Florida State (13-0) in the Northwestern Mutual Rose Bowl game in Pasadena, California that is the Semifinals of the College Football Playoff.  That game will take place on Thursday, January 1st at 3 pm on ESPN.

#14 UCLA (9-3) will take on #11 Kansas State (9-3) in the Valero Alamo Bowl in San Antonio, Texas on Friday, January 2nd at 4:45 pm on ESPN.

Washington (8-5 will take on Oklahoma State (6-6) in the Ticket City Cactus Bowl in Tempe, Arizona on Friday, January 2nd at 8:15 pm on ESPN.
