Wishnowsky Named Consensus All-American

Utah punter Mitch Wishnowsky secured a spot among consensus All-Americans on Monday.

Utah punter Mitch Wishnowsky secured a spot among consensus All-Americans on Monday. The sophomore won the Ray Guy Award last Thursday, given to the nation’s top punter.

The Associated Press and Football Writers Association of America both named Wishnowsky to their All-America first team, landing him on the first team of four of five publications that count toward the consensus list (AP, AFCA, FWAA, Sporting News, and the WCFF). The American Football Coaches Association will name their teams on Wednesday.

Wishnowsky ranks second in the nation in punt average (48.0), and is tied for the national lead for punts inside the 20-yard line with 34, and punts inside the 10-yard line with 17. He is also tied atop the national lead of 50+ yard punts with 28, and helped Utah lead the country in net punting with 44.9 yards per punt.

Wishnowsky become Utah’s sixth consensus All-American all-time and the third consecutive punter. Utah’s other consensus All-Americans were defensive lineman Luther Elliss (1994), offensive lineman Jordan Gross (2002), defensive back Eric Weddle (2006), kicker Louie Sakoda (2008) and punter Tom Hackett (2014 and 2015).

Defensive end Hunter Dimick was named to the Walter Camp and FWAA All-American second teams and the AP third team.  Dimick, a 2016 first-team All-Pac-12 Conference honoree and an Academic All-American, leads the Pac-12 and is tied for third in the nation in sacks (14.5). His 20.5 tackles-for-loss tie for fourth nationally as well.
