GAME NOTES
- Utah Football legend and Super Bowl champion Eric Weddle will become the fourth member of the Utah Football Ring of Honor in a special halftime ceremony Saturday, which also will serve as Weddle’s On-Campus Salute to recognize his upcoming induction into the College Football Hall of Fame, in December.
- Head coach Morgan Scalley made his regular season debut leading the Utes in week one vs. Idaho, a dominant 66-14 triumph over the Vandals. That came after a 44-22 victory over Nebraska in the Las Vegas Bowl on Dec. 31 in his first time as the head man on the sideline. Scalley, a Salt Lake City native and U alum who has been on the coaching staff since 2008, has served as safeties coach that entire time and was tabbed defensive coordinator in 2016.
- The Utes open the 2026 season with three straight home games at Rice-Eccles Stadium, having sold out 96 consecutive contests in Salt Lake City. Home has been a great place to be for the Utah football team over the last five+ years, ranking atop the Big 12 Conference and No. 14 in the nation in home winning percentage during that time (26-6, .812).
- Quarterback Devon Dampier picked up right where he left off in the Las Vegas Bowl, throwing for three scores on just 18 attempts in the season opener. His three touchdown passes are tied for second-most in the conference through the first week of games.
- Wayshawn Parker had a strong season debut for the Utes with three touchdowns (2 rec., 1 rush) in the blowout win over Idaho. His pair of receiving touchdowns are part of a four-way tie for the most in the conference, while the three total scores are tied for second in the Big 12.
- The Utes have played nine games all-time against the SEC and hold a 2-7 overall record, but Utah defeated Florida 24-11 in the most recent matchup (2023) in Salt Lake City and famously defeated Nick Saban’s Alabama squad, 31-17, in the 2009 Sugar Bowl to cap an undefeated 13-0 season.
- Utah has now won 11 of its last 12 season openers after the win over Idaho, with the lone loss coming in a 29-26 defeat in The Swamp against Florida on Sept. 3, 2022.
