Runnin Utes add 4 Star PG to their 2018 Class

The final piece of Utah Basketball’s 2018 recruiting class was added on Friday afternoon in Phoenix. Both Gach of Compass Prep made it official when he chose Utah over San Diego State and Texas Tech. Gach, a 6-7 long and lanky Wing player, will likely slot in initially at the Point Guard spot for Larry Krystkowiak’s team.

Gach, who began his high school career in Minnesota, will join a Utah Class that on paper appears to the best of the Krystkowiak Era. Gach was recently upgraded from a 3 to a 4 star recruit by Rivals and 24/7 Sports. He is considered to a a Top 150 recruit in the country. He’ll join fellow freshman Naseem Gaskin SG (3 star), Timmy Allen SF (4 star), Riley Battin PF (3 star) and Lahat Thioune Center, along with National Junior College Player of the Year, Charles Jones from the College of Southern Idaho. 24/7 Sports ranks the Utah 2018 recruiting class #34 in the Nation, with the addition of Gach on Friday.

Gach has played mostly at shooting guard and wing in high school, the Utah Coaching Staff sees both physical and basketball comparisons to former Ute and current Toronto Raptor Delon Wright. Expect to see Gach play a good deal at the point guard spot, though Larry Krystkowiak doesn’t like to designate specific positions. He likes players that can play multiple spots and Both Gach fits that mold. Utah will have more options with lineups this coming season than they’ve had in the last 7 years. With the exception of their big men (Johnson, Topalovic and Thioune), Utah’s roster is all able to play multiple spots.
