An Olympic gold medallist is getting a new medal after an unfortunate incident with her first.
Takashi Kawamura, mayor of Japanese city Nagoya, chomped on softball athlete Miu Goto’s medal at a media event last week.
Critics say the move ignored Covid-19 restrictions and “lacked respect.”
The mayor has since apologized and will pay for Goto’s new medal.
