17 Sports Movies That Everyone Should Own

There’s nothing better than a good sports movie… and there are a bunch of them out there. From Gene Hackman’s iconic “I love you guys” in Hoosiers to Will Patton’s inspiring “You make sure they remember, forever, the night they played the Titans!” from Remember the Titans, no other movie genre can inspire us quite like sports movies can.

Here’s our list of 17 sports movies you should own, in no particular order… except #1.

17. Green Street Hooligans (Soccer)

Soccer fandom at it’s finest (or worst – depending on your point of view). This movie gives you a great peek inside what it’s like to be part of a loyal supporters group. You’ll want to watch this movie over and over… just not with your kids.

16. Lords of Dogtown (Skateboarding/Surfing)

Every sport has a beginning. A place and time where its roots were planted. This movie is the story of how skateboarding started in California and how it quickly took the world by storm.

15. The Endless Summer (Surfing)

This movie will make you want to surf. All year.

14. The Fighter (Boxing)

A gritty story about two brothers, both fighters, and their fight to make it big in the world of boxing. Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale kill in this movie.

13. Friday Night Lights (High School Football)

Not as good as the TV series, but still a classic that should be on everyone’s movie shelf. This movie follows the story of a high school football team in Texas as they try to become the Texas State Champion.

12. The Sandlot (Baseball)

One of the greatest movies of all time, this movie tells a story of one kid’s introduction to America’s pass time and how it helped shape his life. “You’re killin’ me Smalls!”

11. Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (Nascar)

This one has to be on this list because it’s hilarious.

10. The Karate Kid (Karate)

At one point or another, everyone can relate to Daniel Larusso. As the new kid in the neighborhood he befriends Mr. Myagi and attempts to learn karate to defend himself from the school bullies, the Cobra Kai.

9.  A League of Their Own (Baseball)

This one is just a great story, placed in a great time in our country’s history. Can’t miss this one.

8. The Natural (Baseball)

Admit it… you tried to make your own baseball bat after you saw this for the first time.

Can’t find the trailer for this one… Go HERE to watch it.

7. Rudy (College Football)

Few stories are more inspiring that the tale of Rudy, a too short, too slow kid who had aspirations of playing college football on the biggest stage in the country: Notre Dame. His dedication and drive payoff as he becomes the only Notre Dame player to ever be carried off the field in celebration by his team mates.

6. Field of Dreams (Baseball)

If you build it, he will come. Enough said.

5. Raging Bull (Boxing)

A tale of two sides as a boxer uses his anger to get him to the top of the boxing world, subsequently destroying his life outside of the ring.

4. Bull Durham (Baseball)

Another one to watch after the kids go to bed, this movie follows an up-and-coming minor league pitcher as he tries to break into the big leagues.

3. Remember the Titans (High School Football)

This movie has everything. Enemies becoming friends. Gut wrenching tragedy. A coach and team torn by racial segregation. Unmatched triumph. And Ryan Gossling acting like a goofball.

2. Rocky (Boxing)

The original. “Adriaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnn!”

1. Hoosiers (High School Basketball)

The. Best. Sports. Movie. Of. All. Time. Don’t argue with me, because you’ll be wrong. This one follows a tiny 7-man basketball team from Hickory, Indiana as they make their name in Indiana High School Basketball history. Based on the true story of the 1954 Indiana State Champions, Milan High School.
