Is the Utes defense set?

Kyle Whittingham after practice Saturday set out a clear breakdown of the Utes defense, specifically the open positions, left by the absence of Linebacker Manny Bowen, cornerback Julian Blackmon moving to safety, and both Marquis Blair and Corrion Ballard graduating and heading to the NFL.

Here’s how Utah’s defense looks as of today.

Defensive Line: Bradlee Anae, Leki Fotu, John Penisini, Maxs Tupai/Mika Tafua

Linebacker: Devin Lloyd, Francis Bernard

Cornerback: Jaylon Johnson, Tareke Lewis, Javelin Guidry

Safety: Julian Blackmon, Terrell Burgess

Additionally, Whittingham said freshman Aaron Lowe will get some reps at Nickelback, as well as safety. Josh Nurse continues to play well as a back up cornerback.
