Preview: Utah Royals at Chicago Red Stars

Winless in their last five, the Royals are back on the road to face Chicago Red Stars, here’s what you need to know ahead of the match:

1.  Utah Royals is coming off a 1-2 loss against North Carolina Courage last weekend at Rio Tinto Stadium.  Christen Press put the Royals up in the 13th minute but North Carolina’s high-scoring offense proved to be too much for the best defense in the league as Hamilton and McDonald scored to give the Courage the win.  Press’s goal was her third of the season, in four appearances, and her second consecutive Goal of the Week winner.

2.  With their recent results, Utah Royals sits in 7th place in the NWSL with a record of 5-5-3.  Amy Rodriguez still leads the team with five goals despite not having scored in her last five appearances.   Press, O’Hara, and Sauerbrunn will be unavailable to the Royals as the USWNT begins their Victory Tour tonight in California against Ireland.

3.  Chicago Red Stars currently sit in 3rd place in the league with a record of 7-5-2 and is coming off a three-match win streak.  Sam Kerr leads the league with eleven goals and two assists while Yuki Nagasato has four goals and four assists.  Alyssa Naeher (GK), Tierna Davidson (DF), Morgan Brian (MF), and Julie Ertz (MF) will be participating in the USWNT Victory Tour match
