The Utah Jazz begin regular season play this week as they open up their regular season schedule on Wednesday on the road as they take on the Detroit Pistons at 5:30 PM. The Jazz will open up the season on a 3-game road trip before playing the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday, November 4 at Vivint Smart Home Arena.
It will be a good test for the Jazz as they start the season on the road. The Pistons, 76ers, and Pacers are not the top Eastern Conference teams, but they will present challenges for the Jazz nonetheless. This road trip will allow them to focus completely on basketball. It should be a good thing. As the season begins we will see how the defense does, will they be able to continue their great play from last season? This will also be a great chance to see how the team plays offensively, will they keep the pace slow or will they pick it up a bit? The beginning of the season is always fun because no one knows how NBA teams will perform until they get on the floor for real and play the games.
Here is Utah Jazz Head Coach Quin Snyder with the media after practice:
Two players to watch early this season are Trey Burke and Trey Lyles. Will Burke be able to continue his very good offensive effort of the preseason? Burke lead the team in scoring during the preseason. However he will need to pick up his assist totals during the regular season. He needs to penetrate the paint and find the open man. That will only open up the offense. He did a good job this preseason at being more aggressive which was good to see. Let’s just hope he keeps it going during the regular season. He will be a big factor in the team’s success this season. Rookie Trey Lyles needs to get it going offensively. He didn’t receive a whole lot of playing time in the preseason, so he needs to take advantage of every moment he gets out on the floor early in the year. He needs to have a dynamic presence while he is out there. The Jazz are another young team this season; they should be a fun team to watch as everyone tries to determine their role on the team.
