Utes planned to practice outside Tuesday afternoon, but were moved inside the Spence Eccles Field house because it was snowing in Salt Lake City.
Moving right along, the offense used some of their practice time to work on the ‘screen game’ while in the red zone.
Some receivers implemented in this drill:
W/R Kenneth Scott
W/R Raelon Singleton
W/R Taylor Loomis
W/R Geoffrey Norwood
W/R Andrew Santiago
The wide receivers performed well – blocked on the outside so the running back could pick lanes in the end zone.
From the perspective on the offensive line, Isaac Asiata said that he is using practice time to work on his pad level, faster footwork and his run game. He has said that the offense is clicking, and they have a lot of young guys who are making the most out of their reps and time to practice as well.
The offensive line is preparing their younger players to catch up to the veterans, in order to have a solid group this year.
Utah’s defense is still showing improvement, and played well in third down situations.
The Utes are staying positive and working to keep up their momentum and energy during practice.
The team practiced returning drills during the second hour. Bubba Poole and Boobie Hobbs were given the opportunity to practice these reps. Poole said that he has enjoyed playing in the punt return and kick return position so he is working hard to be a designated returner.
