Utah Utes Fall Football Camp: Day 6

The defense dominates in the first part of the first two-a-day of camp.

The offense continued to be overpowered by the defense today.

The defensive line put a relentless attack on their offensive counterparts and all three quarterbacks. There were several sacks and there wasn’t a lot of time for the quarterbacks to work. When the O-line was able to give the quarterbacks some time, the secondary locked down receivers into several coverage sacks. There were two tip-interceptions that we saw in the media session.

The quarterbacks did an adequate job with the time they had to work through their progressions, but still missed a few throws here and there.

The offensive sideline was quiet, and several leaders repeatedly tried to get their teammates to stay motivated and excited. The defensive sideline was very vocal, energized, and positive. This is a common occurrence, but was magnified to some extent today.

Kyle Whittingham said in his post-practice media session that the results today were 70% due to the defensive line being so dominant, and 30% the offensive line struggling.

It’s typical that the defense will be ahead of the offense at this point in camp. Today was the first part of the first two-a-days. We won’t get to see the second practice of the day, but I’d expect the offense to come out with renewed energy tonight.
