Dropkick Murphys are an American Celtic punk band formed in Quincy, Massachusetts, in 1996. Known for their high-energy performances and blending of punk rock with traditional Irish music, they gained widespread recognition for their anthemic sound, often incorporating instruments like bagpipes, banjos, and mandolins alongside the standard electric guitar, bass, and drums. Their lyrics frequently explore themes of working-class pride, Irish-American identity, social justice, and rebellion. The band achieved mainstream success with songs like “I’m Shipping Up to Boston,” which became iconic after being featured in the film The Departed. Dropkick Murphys’ music is deeply rooted in their Boston origins, and they’ve built a loyal fanbase, especially known for their passionate live shows. Their annual St. Patrick’s Day performances have become legendary. The band is also involved in charity work and social activism. Over the years, Dropkick Murphys have released several albums, becoming one of the most recognized names in the Celtic punk genre.
